Summary
Operations of Networks for Telecom Cloud
In the rapidly evolving landscape of cloud computing, the resources required for service and applications mainly exist in the form of clouds, and this form is distributed and decentralized with high dynamic changes, accordingly, The network construction and operation methods need to be adjusted to meet the needs of the cloud.
Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) possess a significant advantage in their ability to reach their intended customer when they own and operate vast WAN, 5G, cellular networks that span the globe, and in cases where they own the last mile. To leverage this unique position, TSPs that develop Telecom Clouds can optimize the cloud environment for service delivery by tightly integrating network and cloud infrastructures. As Telecom Cloud evolves towards multi-cloud and edge cloud models, new challenges emerge in provisioning, automation, and operation. However, most networks, while extensive, are often rigid in terms of operation and struggle to fully adapt to modern cloud service demands.
Additionally, interoperability becomes a critical issue, as TSPs typically rely on equipment from multiple vendors, in contrast to public cloud providers that can standardize on a single vendor ecosystem. Telecom Cloud Services must seamlessly integrate diverse software and hardware systems, creating both challenges and opportunities for collaboration—especially within the IETF. Addressing these challenges will require a coordinated effort to develop standardized solutions that ensure flexibility, scalability, and interoperability in Telecom Cloud environments.
